Water Wading

| Flowing water | A handrail or rope facilitates wading along a natural brook for perhaps 5 to 20 m (5 to 25 yd.). If the ground is unstable, some rounded gravel can be applied. | |

| Numerous options to create and variegate a network of creeks and ponds can be studied at the Witches' Water in Tyrol. Strong pond foil forms the underlay, the borders are cemented boulders. Fine gravel and sometimes flagstones are on the ground. | |

| Varying soil materials underwater | If the current is not too strong, sand or different kinds of gravel can be applied to the streambed. Thus different soils can be felt underwater. | |
| Wading through the river | With plastic-coated steel ropes even a river can be crossed. Depending on depth and current, it may be necessary to give the instruction that each child (e.g. up to eight years) must be accompanied by one adult while crossing the ford. In case of such restrictions, a bridge is required as an alternative. | |
| Water wading basin | Water from a creek can be retained for a water wading basin. | |
| In the absence of a creek, a water wading basin can be made of cement and filled with tap water. This is a major investment and requires regular maintenance. But perhaps it already exists nearby as a spa facility? | |

| A walk through shallow water is an option to remove most of the dirt from the feet before entering the water basin. Alternatively the opportunity for foot washing should be given at the location. | |
